Josiah LeFebre: The howler monkeys are among the largest of the New World monkeys and one of only a few nest-buliding monkeys. When the howler monkey cries you can hear them up to three miles away. Male monkeys have large throats and specialized, shell-like vocal chambers that help to turn up the volume on their distinctive call. The noise sends a clear message to other monkeys "This territory is already occupied". The Howler Monkey prefers to stay High up, munching on the leaves that make up most of their diet. external image black-howler-monkey_467_600x450.jpg Jacob Bakken: Manuel Antonio National Park is a park located on the Pacific Coastline of Costa Rica. They are one of the strangest mysteries of Costa Rica that are ranging in sizes from a few centimeters to two meters. These human made sculptures also can weigh up to 16 tons and can be found by buildings like schools or hospitals and in some museums. Many of these have been destroyed by people like treasure hunters or broken for agricultural activities. There is not much real evidence but it is believed they date back to 12,000 years ago. Many are not in the original place they were made or placed. external image sar_12crmus.jpg Dane external image placeholder?w=320&h=213 Arenal Volcano, in Spanish Volcán Arenal. it is an active andesitic stratovolcano in north-western Costa Rica. It is around 90 km northwest of San José. It last erupted in 2010. I chose this because volcano's are cool. And it is a huge geographic site. tortuguero-picture.jpg Macayla Rand: I chose Tortuguero National Park. I chose this because of the beauty and rarity of animals here. This National park is best known for being able to watch turtle nesting. There are three main types of turtles that nest on the beaches of the national park. Green Sea turtles, leatherback, and Hawksbill turtles. There is a corporation that protect these turtles (Caribbean Conservation Corporation) since the 1960's. Tortuguero is also known for it's rivers, canals, and lagoons. Sometimes when canoeing through the canals you might get lucky and get to see the rare west Indian manatee. Also while canoeing down the canals you'll be able to see a few species of monkeys like spider or howler. Annie Skogen: The Arenal Volcano is a volcano that is about 90km north of San Jose. It is a relatively "young" volcano at an estimated 7,500 years old. The Arenal Volcano was a non-active volcano for hundreds of years. In July of 1968 the volcano erupted unexpectedly and destroyed the town of Tabacon. Many different times following it's greatest eruption in 1968 did Arenal have small eruptions. Today, it is considered to be a "dormant volcano" with the last recorded eruption being in 2010. The Arenal Volcano is now apart of a National Park which is a big tourist attraction and also a experimental field for many students in Costa Rica. image.jpeg

The waterfall is 200 feet high and falls into a cold pool of water. On the hike down there you could potentially spot monkeys, toucans, or other types of animals as you navigate through the rainforest. You are aloud to swim in it as well as take pictures. This waterfall is really beautiful and I would be very interested in visiting it because, I have been to many waterfalls in my life, but never one that people are aloud to swim in. cloud reserve.jpeg Kate-- Reserva Biologica del Bosque Nubos de Monteverde (Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve) is a reserve located along the Cordillera de Tilaran. Along with being almost one mile in diameter poas is 8885 feet tall. The volcano has erupted 39 times since 1828 and the last eruption was in 2011. Only one of the three craters at Poas is active one of the others had been made into a cold-water lake, whichs flows down to the mountain feeding into the sarapiqui river. external image costarica103.jpg Carson Schultz- I chose the Museo Nacional de Costa Rica which is the National museum of Costa Rica. I chose this becuase of the architecture, size and importance of the building. The museum is located in San Jose, the capital of the country, and was built in 1887. There are many interesting things about Costa Rice inside, such as the exterior walls of the BellaVista fortress which was one of the main fortresses in the country's 1948 civil war. The museum is one of many "must visit" places in Costa Rica.

Zach Devine- The landmark I chose in Costa Rica is called the Corcovado National Park. I chose this because it is an interesting attraction in Costa Rica and contains a diverse population of wildlife. Also it contains a large rain forest and holds many endangered species and is called "the most biologically intense place on earth." Many tourists come here and are able to stay and camp over night because camp sites and fresh water is provided, hike in the rain forests, or bathe under waterfalls. Overall I think this is a cool place that everyone should see in Costa Rica. external image Costa-Rican-Rainforest-Smile1.jpg

Chelsea Lee, El Dia De Boyero: Also known as the Oxcart Festival, it is the biggest festival in Costa Rica. It is during the second Sunday in March and oxcarts from all over the country comes to Escazu to join in and show off their brightly colored oxcarts! This is the most beautiful festival here. The reason they use oxcarts is because years ago, they used these to pull crops and bring them to ports. During this, they pass a church where they all get blessed by a priest. It is also a time of traditional food and lots of fun
